THE Bowling Club de Zurgena’s first ever ‘open day’ proved to be a great success.
The club anticipated maybe a dozen or so people interested in trying their hand at bowls would show up to the event staged on Saturday, the idea to meet its commitment to encourage the public to make use of the facilities.
As it turned out the club was overwhelmed when more than 40 people went along.
The majority of those attending the event were trying their hand at the sport for the first time, but there were also a handful who had bowled previously and had decided to return to the game.
Club members were on hand for the ‘newbies’ to provide guidance and basic tuition. Guests were advised on the selection of the correct bowl for each individual and then invited onto the rinks for a practice session.
Many of the people there said they will go back again and a good number have already committed to joining the club for the 2020 season beginning on January 1.
