CALPE’S former mayor Javier Moratoand three ex-councillors will stand trial at the Alicante High Court next April.They are accused of accepting a €600,000 bribe toaward businessman Angel Fenoll a 25-year contract for the town’s rubbish collection in 1988.The brother-in-law of one of the accused is also accused of acting as an intermediary in the deal.Morato, the three councillors and four others face prison termstotalling 58 years for awarding Fenoll an intentionally-inflated contract and defrauding €11.9 million of public money.
