Alfaz opens the closet in sport on Costa Blanca

ALFAZ’S mayor Vicente Arques inaugurated, Against the Rules, an exhibition at the Pau Gasol sports installation.The itinerant exhibition sets out to eliminate taboos regarding sexual diversity and gender that still exist insport.“It does not try to be exhaustive, but it does want to draw attention to the different forms of discrimination against the LGTB collective in sport,” explained sources from Alfaz’s Sports and Equality department who have organised the exhibition with the collaboration of Alicante University.“At the same time it wants to make clear that sport offers LGTB persons the chance of living their lives with self-esteem,” they added.The exhibition features sports stars who do not hide their sexual orientation but the organisers stressed that compared with the hundreds of thousands of people who practise sport each day in practically every country in the world, a few names were relatively insignificant.Instead the exhibition hopes to contribute towardseliminating the prejudices that still exist regarding homosexuality in the world of sport while drawing attention to the different kinds of discrimination that exist against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexual.
