ALTEA MEETING: Award-winners and members of the Children’s Council Photo credit: Altea town hal
ALTEA’S Children’s Council met recently at the local Social Centre. The first item on the agenda at the meeting presided by Altea’s mayor Jaume Llinares and Education councillor Vicenta Perez was the presentation of awards for Academic Effort at the town’s state schools. The council members explained their reasons for deciding who should receive awards for their performance during the 2018-2019 school year. This was followed by the constitution of the new Children’s Council. As this is composed of primary pupils from the fifth and sixth years it was necessary to fill the vacancies left by Year Six pupils who finished their primary education and moved on to secondary school. Those places left empty by pupils had finished the fourth and final year of Spain’s ESO compulsory education also had to be filled. This was the first edition of the Academic Effort awards and both the Jaume Llinares and Vicente Perez congratulated the winners for the “well-deserved recognition” at the meeting that was also attended by the council members’ schoolmates, teachers and families.
