A FESTIVE atmosphere has spread throughout La Herradura, thanks to the 150 poinsettias planted across its bay and central streets. Bold and beautiful, the colourful plants are particularly well known for their red and green foliage and are widely used in Christmas floral displays. Each were carefully planted by participants from the City Council’s gardening programme, who have been entrusted to maintain the specific conditions required to retain the plants’ magnificent blooms. La Herradura’s palm trees also received special attention, which were pruned to prevent their seeds from blowing down onto the streets by the wind. Given their great height, a crane was used to care for the washingtonia palms which are known for their stately and distinctive stature. The maintenance of the trees began last week and will be extended to the rest of Almuñécar throughout December.
