THE City Council of Vélez-Málaga have prepared a full programme of activities for residents over the festive period.
Designed for every age and aimed at boosting local trade, the council have announced a wide schedule of events that will begin on December 5 and run until the Three Kings Parade on January 6 at the most emblematic points of the city.
On Thursday, December 6, the spectacular Christmas Light Show illuminated Camino Viejo de Málaga from 6.30pm. Visitors enjoyed a festive atmosphere thanks to the traditional nativity scene created by the renowned Venitian Antonio Ferrer, who has worked with the council for over 21 years.
For lovers of music, Teatro del Carmen have organised a varied program of activities in December including a Christmas Concert from the Municipal School of Music on December 10 and 11, followed by the Juan Breva Flamenco Festival on December 14.
A wonderful Christmas parade starring Santa Claus and his merry helpers will also tour the central streets on December 21, where children and the young at heart can delight in artificial snow followed by a performance from ‘Rumbalero’. A special Christmas Carol Concert will follow at the Church of San Francisco from 9pm, with performances from the Friends of Music Choir.
Speaking about the impending festive events, Lola Gámez, Councillor for Fairs, Festivities and Commerce explained that the schedule of events are geared towards young people this year and will “encourage residents to travel through the main shopping streets, reviving the city during the holidays.”
