The barriers at the Avenida de Beniarda level crossing are now down for only TWO minutes instead of SEVEN! This is where the Alicante-Denia railway line crosses an always busy section of the CV-70 after leaving Benidorm station and causes frequent traffic holdups, explained mobility councillor Jose Ramon Gonzalez de Zarate. The General Directorate of Public Works, Transport and Sustainable Mobility has now authorised the regional rail operator, FGV, to introduce new software that reduces the wait at the level crossing from seven to two minutes. As well as obvious improvements to road safety, traffic flow will improve considerably, De Zarate said. Until now there have been chaotic periods during the day when the level-crossing has to close three times in 20 minutes for the arrival and departure of Line 1 and Line 9 trains. Meanwhile, the daily traffic jams and the “despair” of the 26,000 drivers who use Avenida de Beniarda each day have been temporarily solved before a definitive answer to the problem is announced next year, the councillor said.
