Caught on camera twice: Princess Royal in Buckingham Palace videos, UK

Princess Anne was caught on camera twice in Buckingham Palace yesterday, first appearing to disobey the Queen and later as part of a group of world leaders appearing to gossip about Donald Trump.

At a lavish reception hosted by the Queen in the palace state rooms on December 3, one video clip shows the Princess Royal standing near UK PM Boris Johnson, Canadian leader Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron as they laughed over why Mr Macron arrived late at the reception.

The group seem to snigger about an impromptu, lengthy conference given yesterday by Mr Trump which lasted 48 minutes.

No one mentions Mr Trump by name but Mr Johnson asks Mr Macron, “is that why you were late?” and Mr Trudeau interjects, “he’s late because he takes a 40 minute press conference off the top.”

Mr Macron can then be seen gesturing animatedly. Earlier the French and US leaders clashed after Mr Macron called Nato, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, ‘brain dead.’

In photos and the video footage, Princess Anne is part of the group and can be seen speaking but nothing can be heard.

But the Princess Royal did refuse earlier to join the receiving line welcoming Mr Trump and his wife Melania to the palace.

In a second camera clip, the Queen was standing waiting to enter the Palace’s state rooms with Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

She turns towards her daughter and appears to gesture to her to join her but the feisty 69-year-old royal declined and merely shrugged her shoulders.

The event, attended by 29 Nato leaders and representatives of several nations, took place ahead of today’s Nato summit in London.

Social media users criticised the world leaders for their behaviour. One targeted Mr Trudeau, tweeting: “Ridiculous way for world leaders to act.

“All should be ashamed but as a Canadian I’m most concerned with Trudeau who is representing my beautiful country. “How dare you embarrass us?!”
