AN ENGLISH Primary school was placed on ‘immediate lockdown’ after ‘man with knife’ was seen near the school grounds.

The incident occurred just before 8am this morning as the children were arriving to the school and a man with a knife was seen near the school gates.

A spokesperson for Lincewood Primary School has stated that as soon as the staff became aware of the situation, emergency safeguarding procedures were put into action.

Euro Weekly News understands that at the time of the occurrence, there were only a few pupil in the school attending a pre-school breakfast club. The staff immediately proceeded to close doors and lock down the building.

The pupils were kept inside and those who arrived after were taken directly to the main building while Essex Police dealt with the situation at around 8am today.

Essex Police have confirmed that a man has now been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

According to reports by Metro, Julie Braithwaite, Acting Headteacher, said she was fully satisfied the correct action was taken to ensure the matter was dealt with appropriately and took the opportunity to praise the “swift and calm actions” of the staff.

It has been confirmed that no pupils or adults were harmed during this incident.
