FIVE people have been arrested after they allegedly tried to steal the guns from two police officers they brutally assaulted.
National Police arrested the men as the suspects after the incident in the Juan XXIII district of Alicante city.
Two plain clothes agents were in an unmarked car when they told the occupants of a vehicle that was illegally parked to move on. As they drove off, an object was thrown at the police. The officers pulled over the suspect vehicle only to be attacked, knocked to the ground and kicked.
The assailants unsuccessfully tried to grab the officers’ guns but did manage to get away with a mobile phone. One of the policemen suffered facial injuries.
Those arrested have been charged with assault, battery and robbery with violence.
