A MAN has been jailed for two years and three months after he robbed his lawyer and a friend in a two hour gunpoint ordeal on Spain’s Costa Blanca

Alicante’s provincial court in Elche heard that on July 12 last year the convicted man and a friend had met with the lawyer in Callosa de Segura to discuss a legal matter.

All three then got in a car with the defendant sitting in the back. He then pulled a gun, put it to his ‘friend’s’ head and demanded €40,000.

He then made the victim drive to an ATM in La Murada, pointing the gun alternately at the driver and the lawyer. Once there he forced the lawyer to withdraw €600, the maximum daily amount available.

He then took €460 from the other victim after hitting him over the head with the butt of the gun.

The two men were held captive in the car for two hours before the convicted man took their mobile phones and dumped the men on a dirt track between La Murada and Albatera and escaping in the vehicle.

Police arrested the man five days later, and he has been held in custody ever since.

Originally the public prosecutor was asking for a jail term of more than 18 years, but in the end agreement was reached with the defendant for the shorter term, which the court has approved.
