Woman gives birth in the middle of historic street in Spain

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman has given birth in the middle of a street in the historic city of Lleida, Spain.

The public delivery was made possible by two members of the public, a waiter and a dentist, who assisted the woman as she went into labour on Calle Anselm Clava on Thursday evening (November 28).

The events unravelled after the young woman’s partner rushed into El Rebost restaurant and bar to ask for help when it was clear that the arrival of his child was imminent.

Juan José Yera, a waiter at the eatery, did not hesitate to intervene. Speaking to La Mañana, he explained that after calling the 112 emergency services, he hurried outside and found the woman giving birth on the pavement, where the little boy ‘was already sticking his head out.’

Yera added that it was a very fast delivery and that he cut the baby’s umbilical cord with the help of dentist Ramon Ventí who also rushed to the scene to help. Paramedics arrived shortly after, transferring the mother and baby to the Arnau University Hospital in Vilanova de Lleida.

Speaking to La Vanguardia, Ventín describes the minutes before the child’s birth to have been extremely stressful and that the father was very nervous, but that he did not think twice about helping the family.

As Euro Weekly News understands, both the mother and child are reported to be doing well.
