THE Balearic Sailing Federation (FBV) hosted their annual Sports Gala at the Royal Yacht Club of Palma (RCNP), presenting athletes with 77 awards won at world, European and Spanish championships. This is the largest accumulation of awards in the history of sailing in the Balearic Islands.
Chimo González Devesa, President of the FBV, congratulated the athletes for their hard work and dedication at the ceremony which took place over the weekend (December 1) in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Devesa also thanked the commitment of their families and the nautical training clubs, who without, the success would not be possible.
He added that the federation leads the national medal rankings for another year and that this year’s figures are historical for both the region and to everyone who is part of the sailing family.
Some of the recognised athletes included María Perelló, three-time Optimist World Champion, Jordi Lladó, European U17 Champion of Laser Radial; Silvia Mas, Champion of the 470 Sailing World Cup; Neus Ballester and Andrea Perello, Women’s World U17 Champions; Conrad Konitzer and Fernando Rodríguez, U19 420 Junior World Champions, and Violeta del Reino, Hansa 303 World Champion, whose photograph will also appear on the 2020 federal license.
The FBV Gala was attended by Francisco Gil, Director of the FBV and Viviane Mainemare, Sports Coordinator of the RCNP. A tribute was made made to Emilio Feliu, a long-standing race judge who had a strong connection with sailing in the Balearic Islands. Devesa praised “his wisdom and his continued willingness to help.”
