THE recently formed Royal British Legion Concert Band evolved from the Alpengold Oompah Band, the Vega Baja Big Band and the Phoenix Concert Band about a year ago and currently consists of 18 members and resident singer Valerie Lynch.
They play regularly at special events around Costa Blanca both for charity and for Remembrance Services and their next appearance will be at Carols in the Square on Friday December 13 at 5pm where they will be playing with the Spanish Wind and Youth Band as well as the Crescendo and the Studio 32 choirs.
The event is free and takes place in the Plaza de la Constitución outside of the church and this year is in memory of Bill Singleton, a founder member of the band who died recently.
As the band becomes more and more in demand it needs to expand its membership and is looking in particular for those who play, stringed, woodwind or brass instruments who could add their talents to the band which plays a large repertoire of different styles of music from musicals, ballads, marches and carols.
They meet every Tuesday at 4pm in the basement of the Sophia Wellness Centre in La Regia under the direction of David Last and all potential musicians of any age who don’t have to be members of the Royal British Legion will be welcome to pop in for a chat.
