A FLEET of new metal benches across Alicante, Spain, have caused some confusion to residents in the area and users on social networks.
Many people have questioned the use of the new seats, so much so that Facebook groups have been filled with comments ridiculing their possible use. Some believe that they may be a bike rack, an umbrella stand or even an area to tie your dog or leave your electric scooter.
The seats, which have appeared on streets such as Conde Lumiares, Pintor Baeza, Plaza América and Carratalá Cernuda, have been installed by Alicante City Council to support residents with back pain, who can use them to gain strength to be able to continue walking.
These new types of seats have already been installed at train stations in other cities such as Madrid and Valencia.
