A naval engineer who was honoured with an MBE at Buckingham Palace in London England made sure the day of the ceremony was extra special by proposing to his partner at the palace.
Matthew Gallimore, an air engineering technician in the Royal Navy, went down on one knee in the residence’s quadrangle after collecting an MBE for services to the military.
Buckingham Palace would not permit Mr Gallimore to propose inside the Palace but he still wanted to surprise partner Adele Thomasson and make it a very memorable day for the couple who reside in England when Matthew is not at sea.
Mr Gallimore, a junior rating who has only been in theRoyal Navy for five years, was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list and said he began planning the proposal as soon as he received the letter.
Mr Gallimore and the palace agreed that he would propose in the quadrangle, a courtyard in the middle of the palace, after receiving his award from the Duke of Cambridge Prince William Yesterday.
The couple then celebrated their special day with good old Naval tradition of a few “wets” at The Ritz Hotel in the capital of London England followed by dinner at The famous Ivy restaurant.
