LOW LEVELS: The reservoir is 30 per cent below capacity
Recent rainfall is barely noticeable in La Viñuela reservoir in Málaga province. The weekend rains have provided respite for local farmers but haven’t made much of a difference to water reserves in the province.
The long-awaited rain will not mean the end of the drought that has forced the Junta de Andalucía to impose new restrictions on agriculture. La Viñuela, the largest reservoir in the province, is still 30 per cent below capacity with the rain contributing less than one cubic hectometre to reserves.
The agriculture sector is suffering the consequences and is receiving 25 per cent less water for irrigation than the past two years.
