BAKER and owner of La Panadería Francisco de Torremolinos, Javier Rey, has been selected among the 80 best bakers in Spain in the 3rd edition of La Ruta del Buen Pan, a contest which recognizes the work of artisan bakers by the Club Panátics and Pan de Calidad. Javier is the owner of the family business, where he works with his two sisters “My father was making bread since I was born, as a child, I went with my father on a bicycle delivering bread. Then I was working in the store, and it was in 1990 when I decided to get fully into baking.”

Rey explained how he entered the contest, “I made my five loaves. I put them in a sack, and I took them to Alcalá de Guadaíra. They gave me a number and I left. After a week they called me and told me that I’m among the top bakers in Andalucia. ” However, the best was still to come as since then, the national heat of the awards was held at the Valencia Fair, where Javier was again among the elected, this time, from all over Spain. In the contest, the quality, flavour and smell are all tested as well as the store’s display and their customer service.
