THE Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion platforms have organised a protest against Black Friday in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. With the objective of highlighting that the event is ‘part of an economic system that harms the environment due to the amount of waste that it generates’, a protest will be held from 4.30pm in Plaza España in the capital on Friday, November 29. Black Friday has grown in popularity in Mallorca in recent years, where on this day, stores offer discounted prices on products in a prelude to Christmas. The event has also become important for small and medium sized businesses, as boosts local trade. Fridays for Future is a global movement created by Swedish activist Greta Thumbergh. We at Euro Weekly News understand that aims to mobilise citizens, especially young people, to demand politicians act against climate change.
