A BRITISH man and his Filipino wife have been rescued by soldiers after being kidnapped by gunmen in the Philippines last month.
In a statement released by Cirilito Sobejana, the Regional Military Commander Lieutenant General, he revealed that his troops were involved in a brief gun battle with Islamic State-affiliated Abu Sayyaf militants before Allan Hyrons and his wife, Wilma, were safely rescued in the southern province of Sulu.
In October, armed militants abducted the pair from their beach resort in southern Zamboanga del Norte province, which is located approximately 1,500km south of Manila. Witnesses said they were taken from their hut at gunpoint and dragged out onto a motorboat in the night. The abduction sparked a massive search in the region.
A photo has been released by the military, which shows the couple smiling in a military camp and talking with army generals in Sulu.
We at Euro Weekly News understand that the couple will now undergo a medical examination and be interviewed by military officials before they are released.
