THREE cyclists have been injured after being knocked down by a van in Camí dels Reis Mallorca, Spain.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon (November 22), after a vehicle struck a group of cyclists in front of the Son Moix stadium in Mallorca. The driver did not stop after the accident, fleeing rapidly from the scene via La Vileta.
Footage of the incident was captured on a camera fixed to one of the injured cyclist’s bike, which shows a white van attempting to overtake a car, invading the opposite lane and striking the cyclists head-on. All have suffered injuries, with two being rushed to hospital.
Several witnesses took down the license plate of the vehicle in question, notifying the National Police, who together with the Local Police launched an investigation to try and find the van and its occupants.
Officers from the Guardia Civil found the van parked in Santa Ponça, which showed considerable damage to its front as a result of its collision with the cyclists.
Hours later, a woman in her 30s turned herself into the police, first admitting that she was the driver of the white van. We at Euro Weekly News understand that after questioning, the woman revealed that she was not in fact driving and that she was only trying to protect her partner. The woman has been released without charge and a search is underway to find the real driver.
