Bag snatcher targeting elderly women in Roquetas de Mar under arrest

A MAN suspected of mugging at least five elderly women in Roquetas de Mar is under arrest.
The Guardia Civil said the detention of the 38-year old was the fruit of an investigation launched in response to a significant increase in the number of reports of violent bag snatchings in the area over two days earlier this month.
In each case the target was a woman of advanced age, who was walking down the street when she was surprised by an aggressor.
Information gathered from the victims and from witnesses confirmed the robber has used the same tactics. Once he had fixed on a target he would approach them with an intimidating and aggressive attitude, even going as far as to threaten to kill them if they did not cooperate. He would then go right up to the woman and yank the bag away from her, in one case causing the victim to fall on the ground.
All the women gave the same description of the mugger, including the clothes he was wearing.
A witness identified the suspect going into a semi-constructed building in Roquetas, which is where the Guardia Civil arrested him.
