THE Cabrera Lawn Bowling Club has hosted what was the fifth Doreen Sands Memorial Trophy, which this year attracted many new bowlers.
The competition is held in in honour of former club secretary and long-term club member Doreen Sands, who sadly passed away after a short illness.
The fixture took the form of handicapped triples, which Doreen, before her illness, was keen to introduce. Each player had their own individual handicap, which was added to that of the other members of the triples to form the team’s total handicap.
The final was between Steve Townsend with Mal and Elaine Winkles against Jenny Sheridan with Brian and Pat Marsh. Steve’s team with the handicap had three-shot start, but never really needed it as they were comfortable winners 21-9 after 17 ends.
