The Spanish Department of Transport for UK nationals to exchange their driving licence have been extended to January 31.
The standard law at present is that British expats who have been legal residents for two years here in Spain must exchange their UK driving licence for a Spanish one via a very simple process.
But if a no deal Brexit was to take place or Spain can’t reach further agreements with the UK , the Spanish government have said UK licences held by British legal residents will only be recognised for nine months.
British Embassy based in Malaga advise that British residents with an expired licence should apply for a ‘renovación’. If a UK licence is lost, the applicant should ask for ‘sustitución’.
Although with Brexit not having gone through as planned – the Spanish department of transport have decided to extend the opportunity to exchange under the normal rules until Jan 31 2020.
The large difference being after the deadline, exchanging will be a lot tougher with also a driving test involved.
