National Police officers have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly abusing seven girls between the ages of 13 and 15.

Police say the man frequented areas where children gathered then lured them to his house with the promise of gifts. Once there he plied them with alcohol and drugs to gain sexual favours.

The investigation began last month following a complaint by the father of a 15-year-old girl. The man asked the officers for help after surprising his daughter inside a car with an older man when, according to their statements, they were on their way to “spend the day at a hotel spa.”

At this point the arrested man left the girl behind and quickly left the unnamed Malaga province town.

Investigators made inquiries and found that this person had recruited more girls, all of them aged between 13 and 15 years old. Once he got the girls hooked on drink and drugs he would demand sexual favours for the supply of more. He also, say police, did not hesitate to threaten them with knives.

Following the location and arrest of the alleged perpetrator, the officers entered and searched a property where he had taken refuge. There they located narcotic substances, a large machete and clothing belonging to one of the victims.

The arrested person was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, which ordered him to be remanded in custody.
