Five villas with drugs plantations in their cellars in Almeria

Guardia civil have seized more than 1,200 marijuana plants that were being grown in the basements of five villas.
Five people have been arrested in the operation as alleged perpetrators of crimes against public health and electricity fraud
The Guardia Civil worked in collaboration with electricity company Endesa as part of operation “ALANIA PLUS”, in the province of Almeria.
The operation began when the Guardia Civil became aware of the existence of a series of houses in the same neighbourhood of the municipality of Gádor, dedicated to indoor cultivation of marijuana.
Continuing with the investigations, the agents were able to verify that these houses gave off a characteristic smell of cannabis. Officers put a watch on the houses and called in Endesa to check their electricity consumption.
Engineers were able to verify that the properties’ real electricity consumption was much higher than that shown on their meters and also higher than normal domestic consumption.
This was suspected to be because of the power needed by indoor lighting systems and air-conditioning units associated with indoor drugs plantations.
For this reason, agents raided the five houses, finding a total of 1,252 marijuana plants in different phases of growth and flowering, 165 lamps, 24 air conditioning units, 15 extractors with filter, 13 fans, more than 350 empty flowerpots and two machetes of 25cm, in addition to material for cultivation.
in one of the houses there were a total of five rooms accessed through a door installed in the basement.
As a result of the investigation and the searches carried out, 21 illegal connections to the electrical supply have been neutralised in the same neighbourhood and four crimes against public health and five of electricity fraud from illegal connections have been solved.
The arrested people, drugs and seized materials have been handed over into the custody of an Almeria court. The diligences, detainees, plants and other material intervened is made available to the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Almeria.
