Driver nicked for clocking 220kph on Caceres motorway thanks to Instagram post

GUARDIA Civil nicked a driver for clocking 220 kilometres per hour on a Caceres motorway thanks to a video posted on Instagram.

The images reportedly recorded by the passenger and uploaded to social media in October show a vehicle doing the excessive speed on the EX-A2 on which the limit is 120 kilometres per hour.

The Guardia’s GIAT Traffic Investigation and Analysis Group detected the video and set about identifying the person who posted it, leading to the detention of a 27-year old man.

The Guardia issued a press release about the incident in which they issued a warning to motorists about the “danger of this type of conduct.”

The offence could result in a three to six-month prison sentence, a fine of between 31 and 90 days’ community service, on top of a one to four-year driving ban.
