More delay, more cost as London’s Crossrail completion date unsure

Inside the Elizabeth Line Credit: Crossrail

THE London Crossrail project which is planned to connect Reading with Shenfield and is partially open has taken another hit and will not be completed until 2021.

To add to the problems of what is currently Europe’s biggest infrastructure scheme which should have been completed by December 2018 is that it is also believed costs are in the region of £650 million (€715 million) over the revised budget.

The original targeted cost for what will be known as the Elizabeth Line was £15.9 billion (€18.25 billion) and is now likely to reach 18.25 billion (€21 billion).
