LOCAL police in Palma have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly showing his genitals to several women in the city centre.
Officers were alerted to a series of incidents on the morning of November 5. Just after 6am, a woman called the 092 switchboard to report that a man had tried to kiss and grab her on Union Street as she was walking to work.
An hour later, another call was taken by the emergency switchboard which described a man showing his genitals to two women on Miramar Street. Then, around 8am, a call was received to report that a man had shown his genitals to two women on Miramar Street and that he had tried to prevent them from leaving the scene.
Minutes later, local police officers observed a man in Comtat Roselló who fit the description given by the five women and proceeded to approach him. The suspect told the agents that he worked at night and that he was simply taking a tour of Palma, since he had only arrived in the city just over a month ago. Despite denying the accusations, he was arrested and taken back to the police station for questioning.
Later that day, officers interviewed the first victim at her work, noticing several scratches on her arms which were alledgedly inflicted by the man. While the woman recounted the facts to the agents, a friend also revealed that at 7am that morning, a man fitting the same description approached her on Colon Street with his pants down.
The man who is of Chilean nationality has been subsequently charged with exhibitionism and sexual assault.
