NERJA held the VI Almijara Trail de Nerja last Friday 1 November with more than 500 athletes taking part in the gruelling challenge.
The race was part of the IV Provincial Cup of Trail Diputación de Málaga and consisted of two events, an 11 kilometre “light” race and a more strenuous 22 kilometre “general” route.
In the general male category, Alpine Benalmádena’s Raúl Ortiz took the overall victory with a time of 1h 50m 54s, with Álvaro Gómez Guitart second and Tolo Inglés Balaguer in third.
María Bravo, running for the Cave of Nerja-UMA, was victorious in the female category with a time of 2h 23m 57s followed closely by Sonia Vizcaíno Hungary and Ana María Jiménez Gálvez.
In the light category, Yolanda Fernández Del and Álvaro Fernández Cerezo, both from the Cueva de Nerja-UMA took victories in the female and male event respectively.
The award ceremony took place at the Enrique López Cuenca Stadium with Mayor of Nerja José Alberto Armijo, along with councillor of Sports, Daniel Rivas, and the councillor of Culture, Gema Laguna, handing out the awards.
The Department of Sports of the town of Nerja extended their thanks to everyone who participated in the event, all the collaborators who made the event possible and the local police who ensured the safe running.
