FOLLOWING on from our report last month about an eyewitness account of animal cruelty in El Parque de la Paloma, Benalmadena, there have been further witnesses of animal cruelty and disturbing images of animals mistreated.

The local animal shelter “El Refugio De CUQUI” has taken into it’s care some of the mistreated animals including a rabbit that had allegedly been dragged by it’s back feet and has suffered serious injuries as a result. The animal was taken to the vet where it was confirmed that the injuries were provoked by blunt force trauma to the low limbs and the animal has now lost all sensitivity in his hind legs.

The four-year old male rabbit is on medication and treatment. The animal shelter will make the rabbit a trolley so that he can move as comfortably as possible.

There have been other reports from community members that the park in general is abandoned, the current state is worrisome especially the underlying concern that the animals in the park are mere toys for animal abusers.

The original eyewitness reported the following:

This is a photo of the teenager. I watched him and his two friends kicking the chickens and ducks in Paloma Park in Benalmadena. He also tried to wring this poor little rabbit’s neck. I grabbed it from him and chased him him and his accomplices off. I’m sorry to say I think it’s a regular occurrence. Please share and shame him. These little rabbit’s along with chickens and ducks and cats run free. This cruelty needs to STOP. We have reported the incident to the park manager and are going to report it to the Costa del Sol tourism unit”
