Strong winds that we reported yesterday here on the EWN website as forecast battered southern parts of the UK last night.
This unfortunately led to the death of a woman who was hit by a falling tree onto her car.
The woman, reported to be in her 60s, was killed after a tree came down into the road falling directly on her car in Dorset.
The Saturday gusts reached up to more than 80mph across the South West.
Our EWN contact at Met Office said gusts of 83mph were recorded in Plymouth and 82mph in Culdrose, Cornwall but the strongest wind recorded was 109mph at the Needles on the Isle of Wight.
Dorset Police said the currently unnamed driver was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident in Verwood Road, Wimborne, shortly after 8.40am yesterday.
