Santa Maria Golf Club in Marbella held their annual Captain’s Charity Day, with the AECC Asociacion Espanola Contra El Cancer Marbella  benefitting.

This is a local branch of a national charity that provides care for patients and their families before, during and after the illness.

The Captain, Christine Wills, visited the branch’s new premises which have been given to them by Marbella council.

She has had first-hand experience of the kind of care they give. Her husband was referred to them by the Costa Del Sol hospital and the doctor and staff in Marbella gave support and palliative care for three months before he passed away in 2011.

In total, 92 people took part in the golf competition and more than 100 people attended the lunch afterwards to take part in the auctions and raffle. Prizes were donated by many restaurants, golf clubs, businesses and members.

Organisers sent their thanks to have to main sponsors Santa Maria Golf Club for the use of the course for the day and also very generous donations from Caixa Bank La Cala, Cirumed Clinic, Club La Costa and N&B Lawyers.

Due to the generosity of all the people who sponsored holes, donated items for the raffle and auctions and worked tirelessly on the day they were able to raise and present a cheque for €18,615 to Fransisco Aguilar, The President of AECC Malaga.

The winning team was from The Orange Tree Restaurant in Marbella who had a score of 97.

Please note that our current charitable activity is on behalf of Cuidad de los Niños orphanage in Malaga.
