This week a 29-year old man was sentenced to 37 and a half years for the attempted murder of his mother and for the murder of her partner in Costa d’en Blanes in January of last year.
The jury delivered a unanimous guilty verdict at the Provincial Court in Palma to defendant Bogdan Kunytsky. The judge considered that he had acted with premeditated cruelty in having stabbed his stepfather repeatedly while having “exchanged words” that had increased his suffering in “a bloody murder”.
During the trial, the court heard that the defendant, aged 27-years-old at the time, stabbed his 46-year-old mother with a bayonet after an argument. Upon hearing the noise, his stepfather attempted to defend his partner, where he was then subsequently attacked. The man inflicted 18 stab wounds to his mother and 21 to her partner who died at the scene.
Kunytsky was sentenced to 23 and a half years for the murder of his stepfather and 14 years for the attempted murder of his mother. He will also be required to pay €375,000 in compensation to his mother and the couple’s two children.
During his statement before the court last week, the defendant apologised for what happened but then reportedly laughed at the judge.
