Costa del Sol burglary arrests

TWO men suspected of a string of burglaries at Costa del Sol holiday homes have been arrested and a third is being sought.

The detainees, aged 24 and 43 and of Spanish and Algerian nationalities, are charged with crimes of belonging to a criminal group and robbery with force and, so far, have been blamed for 11 burglaries in Marbella and Estepona.

The group, which had its base of operations in Benalmadena, pretended to be tourists and wore swimsuits, flip-flops and towels in order to pass unnoticed. They drove rented cars which they changed weekly.

One of the men arrested was allegedly the break-in expert who would enter propertyies with another man who is still being sought.

The second arrested man was the allegedly the getaway driver and lookout.

Police say the gang worked 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday, first choosing their targets and then carrying out the robberies.

The investigation began in April following several allegations of burglary in several vacation rental apartments in Marbella. Police searched the home of one of the suspects and recovered numerous items that had been reported stolen.
