THE emergency services successfully rescued a Belgian walker from the top of the Tossal del Moro mountain in Gata de Gorgos after he suffered a suspected heart attack on Sunday. A Local Police officer and an expert mountain runner from the Gata de Gorgos council Sports department immediately rushed up the mountain carrying a defibrillator following a 112 call out from the walker’s companions. By the time they got there some 20 minutes later a fire service rescue service and helicopter had arrived. A SAMU health emergencies team also took part in the rescue effort. The walker was evacuated by helicopter to Benidorm hospital. The Gata de Gorgos Local Police thanked everyone taking part in the rescue effort for their “rapid intervention and professionalism.”
