SIGNALLING equipment is being installed at Alfaz station on Line 9 between Benidorm and Denia.
At present the halt does not have an electronic system and the regional rail operator FGV announced recently that the €1.194 million project will bring Alfaz into line with the rest of Line 9.
Once the current work has been completed, FGV will equip the station with a €514,386 Automatic Train Protection system.
Both should be functioning by early 2010, FGV said.
Owing to Alfaz station’s strategic location, the new equipment will increase the traffic capacity, regularity and punctuality of the single-track, narrow-gauge railway, FGV sources said.
Modernisation is currently being carried out between Calpe and Denia, which ceased operating in July 2016, with the service expected to resume in 2021.
FGV had intended to close this section of the line in phases to renew tracks and signalling systems, while overhauling viaducts and tunnels but the entire Calpe-Denia section had to be closed on safety grounds.
