REPAIRS: Work in progress
JAVEA town hall is restoring the network of paths that give access to the Portitxol, Barraca and Sardinera coves. Above all, the Services department has made the footpaths more secure, paying particular attention to potentially unsafe sections that have been eroded in the past during periods of heavy rain. Half of the €75,000 cost is being met by the Valencia Tourist Board and the renovations are included in a joint project carried out with the regional government’s Services and Public Works departments. This programme, which is now nearing completion, covers repairs to the footpaths, adding wooden safety railings to some sections of the coastline, renewing litter bins and installing bicycle racks. Signposting has been improved and information panels giving details of the coves’ environmental importance and the measures that will be taken to ensure that they can be used sustainably. The work currently being carried out includes marking out the paths and installing control barriers that will be used in the summer to regulate access.
