ELCHE council has set out a plan to remove dead pines and plant new ones in La Marina de Elche.
The Councillor for the Environment, Esther Díez, together with a technician representing the Department of the Environment held a meeting with residents of La Marina to explain the project in detail.
It is part of a plan for the regeneration of places of community interest (SCI) on the coast, which goes from Guardamar to the Salinas de Santa Pola.
This includes the pine forest of this hamlet and where works started earlier this month.
Díez said that this action, which involves an overall investment of €1.3 million is part of a comprehensive plan for the restoration and re–vegetation of the pine forests and dunes of the coast.
In this case dead pines and invasive species are being removed, with native flora being planted, which should help the natural dune systems recover.
This is the most important action that will be carried out in the pine forest since its creation in the 19th century.
