Non-Violent Protesters Arrested In Madrid

Extinction demo extinguished

DOZENS of environmental activists blocked rush hour traffic in Madrid’s Calle Joaquin Costa with a pink-painted sailing boat earlier this week.

The non-violent protest was seconded by Extinction Rebellion 2020 and XR España.

The demonstration began at 9am when the group’s Twitter account claimed to have begun the rebellion by blocking the road and taking the Nuevos Ministerios bridge, demanding that the government take immediate action to halt climate change.

Members of the same group, estimated at around 100 by Greenpeace, demonstrated in front of the Ministry of the Environment, with a drama enactment of the planet’s present climate problems and a sit-down in Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz.

An hour after the protests began, the Policia Nacional began to move the protesters from the Nuevos Ministerios Bridge, arresting those who refused to leave.
