CONCERN: Municipal waste collection workers are demanding answers. Source: Facebook /amigosdeespan
Load of Rubbish THE mayor of Motril’s news that he is to privatise the refuse collection duties in the town has not gone down well with municipal employees or residents. Luisa García Chamorro announced her plans earlier this month and immediately received contact from municipal worker’s unions asking for clarification of the process and what it means to the already employed by the council or the semi private firm Limdeco. According to reports, it seemed that during her announcement and subsequent follow up actions, Chamorro hadn’t gone through the correct protocol in informing the workers of her plans, leaving the groups with many unanswered questions. The unions representing the workers are also concerned that a promise given back in 2014 to modernise and invest in the refuse collection services in the town did not materialise, with two previous governments completely ignoring the proposals.
