THE new Nerja Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) will resume construction next week.
Works on the last phase of the project will begin next week after final project approvals by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition.
Works were halted after altered projects were submitted for approval, raising the expected costs of the plant by €2 million and delaying progress for up to a year.
Sources close to the project have estimated that the final phase will take up to eight months to complete and once it has finished, a testing period of six months will be carried out before it starts operation.
The spokesman of the Forum, Antonio Aranda hopes this is the final stage of the project, “The issue of bureaucracy is unbearable. Projects that are urgent and should be given the highest priority and resolved as soon as possible, because we are already years behind.”
“Unfortunately, on many occasions we have been promised an untrue deadline, at this stage unfortunately there is still a year of work before it can open,” he continued.
