Armed robbers blow it
POLICE arrested three suspected robbers just after a failed attempt to hold up a 24-hour convenience store at gunpoint in Almeria city.
One of the men entered the store in the early hours of October 4, police said. His face partly covered by a balaclava and carrying a 9mm calibre pistol, he demanded the shop assistant hand over the contents of the cash register.
When the shop worker pressed the alarm button he fled, first on foot, before jumping into a vehicle in which his two accomplices were waiting.
National and Local police patrols were on the scene almost immediately. Before long they had located the vehicle and the robbers in a nearby street.
Officers found the gun, along with a number of cartidges, the balaclava and a black cap hidden under one of the car seats.
The police said they believed the trio, who have criminal records, were also connected to a frustrated robbery from a lottery outlet in the provincial capital the previous day.
