THE local council of Velez Malaga has brought the Virgen de los Remedios festival forward a week due to clashing dates of the upcoming general elections.
The festival along with the parade will now take part on November 9.
The governing board of the Hermandad de la Santísima Virgen de los Remedios Coronada made the announcement on Sunday night.
According to the statement, the procession and festival has been brought forward as local security teams cannot guarantee the safety of revellers as local police forces will be allocated to the local polling stations during the election process.
The Brotherhood wanted to emphasize that “they have arrived at this decision in a timely manor and will be unique to this year.”
The procession will begin on Saturday, November 9 at 5 pm after the Virgen de los Remedios is to be transferred from the shrine on the ermita to the Church of San Juan two weeks previously.
