Athletes Hit The Road at Urban Race in San Pedro

RUNNERS will be taking part in the 25th Urban Race in honour of athlete Julio Garcia Cruz in San Pedro de Alcántara. The race takes place this Saturday, October 12, when more than 1000 people are expected to participate in the 30 categories on the sampedreñas streets in Marbella.

Deputy mayor of the town, Javier García, announced that the classic event will serve as a tribute to the founder of the sampedreño club Julio García Cruz. Garcia said he was “a person who did a lot for the athletic club and for this city’s sport”.

García was accompanied in the presentation by the Councillor for Sports Activities, Javier Mérida, and by the president of the San Pedro Athletics Club, Toni García, who is son of Julio Garcia Cruz. The mayor said: “We are very proud of this sporting entity and it is a pleasure to support this event.”

The first races begin at 10am and depart and finish in Vega del Mar street at El Arquillo Sports Centre. 

Trophies will be presented to the first six of each competitive category in addition to awarding a prize for the best team. The main route will amount to almost 5 km. Toni Garcia has thanked the involvement of the Mayor’s Office and the people who make the competition possible.
