FIREFIGHTERS safely rescued a man trapped nearly six metres down in a ditch in Torrejon de Ardoz in Madrid following an eight-hour operation.
The 49-year old operative had been working at the bottom of the trench on Monday when the sides collapsed on him, leaving him buried up to his chest.

After what the 112 Madrid Community emergency service described as “more than eight hours of grueling work”, all the time having to be careful the sides of the trench did not give way further, the rescue team managed to pull the trapped worker free.
The man was taken to hospital as a precaution, but according to 112 Madrid did not appear to have suffered any broken bones or injuries.
