THE Guardia Civil has arrested three members of a criminal group, who are accused of 25 burglaries.
Twenty one were committed in Novelda, two in Cantabria and two in A Coruña. The men are also accused of falsifying public and private documents, identity theft and belonging to a criminal group.
Investigations started in February 2018, when three men broke into a Novelda villa and made off with cash and jewellery worth €80,000.
This was followed by another 21 burglaries in just two months. Such was the alarm caused locally that citizen patrols were set up to guard their properties.
Orihuela, San Miguel de Salinas and Novelda Exhaustive police inquiries by several different units, led them to identify three suspects. As a result three men of Moldovan and Russian origin aged 59, 36 and 35 were arrested in Orhiuela, San Miguel de Salinas and Novelda.
The three detainees have been released on charges, awaiting trial, with the obligation to appear before the judicial authority when required to do so.
