THE VII Desafío Granadillas took place yesterday as over 300 participants took part in the gruelling 32 kilometre mountain bike race.
The route took cyclists around a technically challenging course that featured many man made and natural obstacles and climbed a total of 1,200 metres before descending back down into the town of Benagalbón.
The event was part of the XXI Circuito Provincial Mountainbike de la Diputación Provincial and this year, took part of a course that included many new sections such as the Cañada de la Fuente, Los Varales and Ribera routes.
Organised by the Brothers Cycling Club, trophies and cash prizes were on offer for the victors of up to €100 and a team of over 130 volunteers ensured the safe running of the event.
After a strenuous day of cycling, José “Quillo” Márquez and Paqui Jiménez emerged victorious, displaying peak physical fitness and technique to beat the rest of the field.
Later in the afternoon, a prize-giving ceremony took place in the Plaza de las Flores then a paella was made and refreshments were offered to give the competitors a welcome rest.
