A SURVEY carried out by the Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios (OCU) has revealed that supermarket prices across the country vary by as much as 12.3%.
In the survey, 184,000 prices in 1,225 stores across 65 locations were checked as well as online prices amongst the leading supermarket brands such as Mercadona and Eroski.
The startling figures revealed that the average price difference between the cheapest and most expensive items equates to 12.3%.
The organisation points out that by simply changing where you buy your groceries can save you a large sum of money annually.
For example in Alcobendas near Madrid, it is possible to save €3,544 by swapping to a different brand of supermarket locally.
On the Costa del Sol, differences are a little less extreme, with Marbella recording a difference of only €204 between the different brands.
The cheapest supermarkets found on the Costa del Sol are branches of local chains Superco and Cashfresh in Malaga.
