Scottish Child Smacking Ban Set To Become Law

Scottish Parliament today are about to potentially pass a total ban on smacking children in Scotland.

Supporters and opponents of the controversial new law are planning to stage demonstrations outside the Scottish parliament ahead of the final vote on the Issue.

John Finnie of the Green party has called on Scottish members of parliament to show “courageous leadership” as he urges Parliament to become the first country forming the UK to introduce a total ban on the smacking of children.

There’s another campaign though, known as the “Be Reasonable Campaign” who are opposing the move-in law and are appealing for the move to be blocked.

The Bill, if pushed through Scottish Parliament today, would remove the defence of “reasonable chastisement” that’s currently in place.

Campaigners who are opposed to the potential new law are concerned law-abiding citizens could become criminals despite being loving parents.

The vote will take place shortly and we shall update you on the result to see if a total smacking ban comes into place.
